What Are Legislative Districts in Washington?
Washington’s legislative districts are 49 geographic areas across the state, each created to ensure fair and equal representation in the Washington State Legislature. Every district elects one state senator and two state representatives, giving each community a voice in shaping statewide laws and policies.
District boundaries are drawn by Washington’s independent Redistricting Commission, which reviews and updates the map every ten years after the U.S. Census. The goal is to keep populations balanced and communities represented fairly.
